Calendar Items

These will be on the May calendar, but I have had a few questions, so while I am thinking about it: We have a field trip coming up on (Thursday) May 7th to Wheeler Farm. I will be needing a count from each student as to how many are coming, but will send home a form. Also, we will be having graduation (eek!) on Wednesday the 27th of May and the last day of school will be the following morning. It will be held at the Bingham Creek Library and as many as you want are welcome to attend (again, I will be needing a count, but will send a form home). We will have a short (adorable!) program and some food. Can't believe we will be turning them loose this soon!

Fairy Tales

The last two weeks have been dedicated to a favorite topic-Fairy Tales. There are just so many that we needed a little more time than we usually spend on one subject. We did so much fun stuff! We wrote and illustrated our own tales (they really had the "Once Upon A Time" down-not so much with the "Happily Ever After" part), we made figures with salt clay that we later painted, we decorated Gingerbread Men, and we read TONS of stories. I really tried to find ones that were more uncommon so they would not be bored with same-old Cinderella. But your kids really know their tales! (A lot of the knowledge was attributed to the show "Super Why" by the kids). You can ask them about their favorites and see if they can tell any of them back to you. Storytelling is a great language skill!
Also, we started their "Counting Books." They have done One: Me! Two: Hands and Three: Billy Goats Gruff. This will go to ten-so keep adding in the pages as they come home and it will be a really cute book.

Easter

Well, it's officially Spring Break for us. We get one day off school. The kids were very cute today as we did cupcakes (they chose that over cookies). This time we had a variety (chocolate and vanilla) and most of them chose one of each. Funny how that works. They were having fun decorating so I snapped a few pictures. They brought home their decorated eggs today, but unfortunately their bunny they did today was not dry enough to transport. See you Monday!

Spring??

Where did Spring go? Of course we have been building it up at school because the calendar says that it's Spring, but no one told the weather. That's okay because we did discuss the fact that Spring can be unpredictable! We had such a storm today (Thursday) that we actually had hot cocoa to drink! I did this the first time it snowed (in December, I think) and maybe it will be a good way to END the snow-season. This week, your child is probably humming "Little Bunny Foo-Foo" because we have been singing it (honoring all the little animals that are born in Spring-5 Little Ducks too). I hope parents know this song-even if you don't try to have them sing it for you. Hilarious! (I hope they ask you what a "goon" is-have fun explaining!). We also have discussed all the changes in the season and played a "seed planting game." Next 2 weeks the theme is Easter!

We had so many sick students this week! We missed you, but are glad you aren't spreading your germs. Feel better soon-your homework will be waiting for you. We celebrated St Patrick's Day on Monday complete with treasure hunt for the leprechaun's gold (and green-frosted cupcakes). Then we have gone into our theme of Spring. There is excitement in the air as the weather gets warmer and they are able to enjoy the outdoors. We did spend some time outside on Thursday with our "wind testers." They made handprint flowers pictures on Wednesday (with our substitute-thanks Miss Casey!). Spring officially starts on Saturday!

St Paddy's Day

Since we celebrate pretty much every holiday (and non-holiday-I'm talking about you, Earth Day!) in preschool, of course this week centered around St Patrick's Day. Named for a man who was not Irish, but did good things for the Irish people, nor was his given name originally Patrick, was changed by an Irish Catholic Priest, this holiday for the preschool kids is about Pots of Gold, Leprechauns, rainbows, and wearing green. We've read stories about mischievous Leprechauns! The kids thought they were very silly. We will be looking for one's treasure at the end of the rainbow at school on Monday. Don't forget to wear green on Tuesday! Hope your child doesn't try to blame their misdeeds on the Leprechauns!

Weather or not

Last week, we talked about the weather. Good time for this unit since at this time of year in Utah, we have snow one day and park weather the next. The painted pictures that the students brought home on Monday were their weather pictures. They turned out so great but the best part is their descriptions. I wish I had time to write them all down on the back for them. If you get a chance, have them describe it and see if you can see what they see. Someone's child was a picture of someone getting struck by lightning! Was this yours?
