This week our theme was "5 senses." This is a lot of fun, because even though we don't do a lot of projects, we did some experiments with the different senses. We discussed that the senses were a way to find out about the world around them. One day, they used their sense of touch to try to figure out what an item was. Another day, they used their sense of smell. Another day, they used their sense of taste (even though I had to really reassure them that it would not be anything gross-I guess some of them didn't like the smell of onion!). We also used our sense of sight to play "red light, green light." And we explored with popcorn-using all 5 senses. Fun week!
(And now that we finished with letters, we will start numbers).

I wish...
We have been learning about Fairy Tales (which hopefully you have been hearing about). We really focus on the different parts: starting with "Once upon a time," ending with a "happily ever after" and having some sort of magic/fantasy in the middle. I try to find some lesser known tales, so we can expand their knowledge beyond the well known. For example we read "Puss in Boots" today. And last week the "Fisherman & his Wife." The topic today was making and granting wishes. This was fun and following our discussion we drew pictures. Look for those! Discuss other wishes they would make. (Most kids had more than one idea). Tomorrow we will be making an illustrating our own original tale. This should be interesting...

Candy Factory Tour
We had the Sweet's Candy Factory tour today. Great fun-how can you go wrong with a place that makes uses 150 thousand pounds of sugar each week? Here we are posing in our "Candy Maker" hats. Thanks guys, that was fun!
PS There was a parent this morning that asked about some sort of spiced gum drop or jelly bean or something and the lady at the desk said that they didn't make them this year, but then when I was back for the afternoon, she had found a box. If I had known who I asked, I would have gotten it for you, or at least called, but I didn't know-sorry!

Love to all!
Happy Valentine's Day! What fun that it fell on a school day and we could have our little party today. We did our yummy cupcakes, and our card exchange and played some games. And times flies when you are having fun-so much so that Miss Emily forgot to take any pictures of the afternoon group. Sorry guys!

Thankful for you!
Afternoon
Morning
We had such a great "feast" on Wednesday with all of your contributions. It is so fun to have a time when we sit and just really enjoy our time-the students weren't rushing to eat so they could play. I took some pictures of them in their "pilgrim" hats and "indian" vests. They turned out very cute!

Scary Fun
Can I just say that these kids LOVE Halloween? I think that anything that involves candy really gets them going, but it's not just the candy, but the make-believe fun that they have. They really get into their costume persona and it is so fun to see their personalities that way. We had a fun party and I TRIED to make them know that it's still a few days until the "real" Halloween. Have tons of fun trick-or-treating and BE SAFE!

Who is the Grocer in your neighborhood?
We had a great field trip to our local Macey's this week. Although a little hard to get to because of construction, once there, it was interesting and fun. I know that we take our little ones to the store all the time, but the tour gave a little different perspective, just by explaining some things about the store layout and some behind the scenes info. My personal highlights were the frosting flower in the bakery and going in the big freezer. I hope everyone had fun!
